In the dynamic landscape of Canadian healthcare, the push for universal pharmacare has taken center stage, revealing a pivotal moment for policy development and public welfare.
This past summer we partnered with Project EmpowHer, championing the cause for pharmacare coverage through their message of universal contraception. This initiative aimed to address the urgent need for equitable healthcare solutions, ensuring that all Canadians have access to essential contraceptive care without financial burden.
Our collaboration with Project EmpowHer led to a strategic campaign to bring the issue of Universal Contraception to the forefront of national discourse in front of the House of Commons. The goal was not just to meet the minimum signature requirement but to galvanize widespread support across Canada.
The results were extraordinary. The campaign quickly gained momentum, with the e-petition receiving a total of 12,897 signatures, making it the 31st most signed e-petition in the 44th Canadian Parliament, placing it in the 98th percentile over this time. This overwhelming response underscored the public’s support for this cause and the need for policy action.
The federal government’s negotiations on new pharmacare legislation are proof that the message has been received. It creates the potential for significant policy advancements for healthcare coverage in Canada. Discussions include the coverage of birth control costs, a development that can largely be attributed to the public pressure and advocacy efforts led by initiatives like Project EmpowHer. It is a testament to the power of collective action and the role of strategic partnerships in shaping policy.
Our work with Project EmpowHer and the subsequent impact on policy discussions highlight Diplomat’s ability to drive meaningful change. The ability to influence policy, advocate for public welfare, and contribute to the betterment of Canadian society is what we love to do and continues to drive us forward every day.
